Hawaiian DAY158 Pōʻakolu, May 4, 2022

Extinguished. Revitalized. Prominent. Endangered. Highly Endangered.

Warning. Sad mean content. Below.

Have you ever visited BOO DAY SPA? Well Don’t! It a trick not a treat.

Coup d’état rhymes with BOO DAY SPA – COO DAY TA. You probably do not want to visit a COO DAY TA either. “Coup d’état” is a French word meaning “Stroke of State”, and or, meaning violent overthrow of a government by a small group of people.

Languages are frail. Just over 120 years Hawaiian language took a hit. It started with a coup d’état. White Dole Pineapple guys with the help of the American Government took over the Kingdom of Hawaii in a Stroke of State. Shortly afterwards in 1896, Sanford Dole banned the usage and instruction of Hawaiian in schools. Way to go Mister Dole – language Killer.

Now Hawaiian language has these words associated: Extinguished. Revitalized. used to be Prominent. Endangered. Highly Endangered

Language evolve constantly like humans. Evolve or die. Hawaiian language is in an important in between phase between birth and death. Hawaiian Language has developed over many centuries from other Polynesian languages. Like most languages, Hawaiian developed orally and was only starting to be written in the early 1800’s. Some of the first writers of Hawaiian were not indigenous Hawaiians, but White missionaries.

These White westerners also brought diseases and illnesses such as smallpox and influenza that killed the native Hawaiian population dramatically decreasing the number of native speakers.

Revitalizaton. After WWII, Hawaiian Language began being offered in schools. Dictionaries and other reading materials were published. Hawaiian language immersion schools started. Now, more people speak and write Hawaiian. Less people are dying of diseases. Hawaiian people still have many problems that they can trace the start pf the problem with White contact and Coup d’état. Some dream of how the land and the people of Hawaii could be living if they had not been invaded by the United States and if the Contact would have been with nice people and not masculine raiders.
