History: Folklore of the Demon Dog

This story comes from Japanese folklore. It is about a demon dog named Okuri-Inu. Okuri-Inu is neither good news nor bad news if you see him. The good news is that if he starts to follow you his ferocity keeps other demons away. The bad news is that if you stumble while walking, he’s going to chomp you up.

But don’t worry if you fall a lot when walking you can trick Okuri-Inu. You just have to pretend you stopped or fell on purpose by saying, “This is exhausting,” or, “Sure am glad I stopped on purpose and went face-first into the ground so I could check out this mud puddle,” or “kicking roots helps me practice…,” or something in that direction

One last thing you might want to know is that when you arrive at your destination, you should leave food out as thanks for not eating you. After that, the demon should leave you alone forever… Maybe. 🙂
