Persepolis and Taking Cover are two books to understand the changing of governments and how this can dramatically change a person’s life, especially if you are a girl or woman. This all happened in Iran in 1979, less than 50 years ago.

After the shah was overthrown during the Iranian revolution in 1979, new restrictions and loss of freedoms happened to people in Iran. Boys and girls were separated in schools. Certain music was banned. Women and young people suffered the most with these changes.
