Many Berber people live in Rabat Morocco. Rabat, the capital city of Morocco, is situated in North Western Africa. The city shares the shores of the Bouregreg River and the Atlantic Ocean. Life in Rabat today is full of Arabic culture and the Islamic religion. In the more recent past the French also colonized and left their mark on the area. But before the French and the Arabs invaded the area, the Berber people lived here and still live here. The Berber or Imazighen people are some of the earliest inhabitants of northern Africa. Tamazight is the language of the Berber or Imazighen. In Rabat most people speak Moroccan Arabic and French. A quarter of the people speak Tamazight. Berber kings ruled this area for many centuries. Tamazight is fighting to remain a spoken language.
