HISTORY

Nigeria’s won freedom independence and sovereignty from Great Britain on Oct. 1, 1960. Yoruba was very male dominated. Chadwick Boseman, aka Black Panther, had roots to Yorubaland. Transatlantic slave trade. Slave traders run by European countries and USA abducted kidnapped 4 million slaves from Nigeria and transported 1000’s of miles across the Atlantic Ocean westward.

HISTORY

Yoruba people are one of the most popular ethnic groups in Africa. They Live in western Nigeria Benin and Togo. 44 million people now. Known for legendary city Ella-E-Fay. Famous for brass stone and clay sculptures. Oduduwa was the first king of Elle-E-Fay and legend has it that he was the father of the other Yoruban princes who founded their own cities. Each city has its own legend and folklore. In one oral tradition creation myth of Yorubaland, the sky God let down a chain at Ella-E-Fay and Oduduwa came down the chain from the sky carrying a rooster, some dirt and a palm kernal. Oduduwa threw the dirt into the ocean and the rooster scratched it to become land A palm tree grew from the palm nut with sixteen branches representing the sixteen original kingdoms.
